Secret: It is not possible to know where the market is going to go next. No one can do that. Not you, not me, not anyone, so quit trying to do the impossible. You have to learn to trade without knowing where the market is going next. You must trade with uncertainty, because you will never have certainty.

We may not have certainty, but we do have probability. But probability cannot be traded randomly, or with gut level feelings. It must be approached in an organized systematic way. The only way to get probability to work in your favor is to apply a consistent method to your charts, looking for the same setup every single time, and trading it the same way every time.

Confidence in a repeatable methodology only comes from having traded the methods setup over and over for hundreds if not thousands of trades. A lot of this can come from MANUALLY backtesting the method one bar at a time. Automated backtesting that spews out statistics in a few minutes has its place, but only manual backtesting can impart confidence into your soul. Once you have confidence in your method, you will trade it the same way ever time regardless of how you "feel" about the market. Once you have confidence in your method, you wont CARE whether a particular trade is a winner or a loser. You wont care because you will have learned that it doesn't matter, and that the outcome of individual trades is meaningless. Only when you have attained to this mental state can you trade with consistent repeatability. And this consistency, over time results in compounding, and compounding leads to riches.

Not that long ago, I too subscribed to the idea that it was inevitable that a trader blow out a couple of accounts in order to learn to trade. I no longer believe this. With the advent of micro lots and sub-micro lots, the only way anyone can blow out an account is through sheer stupidity.

Most people remain at a spot in life without really moving forward nor having access to a better life because of fear; mostly fear of the unknown. Even in the face of mounting evidence of possible success and progress, many still get frozen from taking the step. Or what will you say about a trader that hesitates to take a trade even when the signal is so obvious a fool can take it. Or an entrepreneur that sees a glaring opportunity and still dilly dally until the opportunity passes. The singular factor is attributable to fear.

I love the definition/acronym of fear that I found recently: It states that FEAR means 'False Evidence Appearing Real'. It is obvious from this why the two scenarios I mentioned above are common because we are faced, mostly due to previous conditioning with the wrong and negative presumptive result of an action we had not even taken and completely blinded to the obvious and actually overwhelming positive expectation of the action.

Fear is most often than not the singular thing responsible for later regrets after missing an opportunity: 'Had I known....'

Notwithstanding that there are one thousand and one reasons that things may not go the way we planned or envisaged, constantly limiting ourself of taking the plunge after due diligence (be sure of knowing and actually doing due diligence) robs us of making things happen and making our dreams become reality; we lose necessary knowledge and confidence of knowing we are well capable of handling situations and turning things around or making them work to our favour.

A number of people have been making enquiries on above and I wish to address such requests with this post.

For one, I am just starting, so I believe I cannot teach what I have not proved yet. Knowledge is one thing, conviction is another but you need more than both to make a success in forex.

My opinion is I should use this time to even know what I am doing first as well as consolidate on both past and present experiences to fashion out the future. From such I should have some past records to show prospects and also make better judgements on forecasts. A 6-month period is reasonable for this.

From all indications, forex market should outlive all of us, so there's no need to rush anything: It's a LONG marathon and not a sprint.

To become a Pro Forex Trader

I resigned my job to face fx trading fully with effect from 16^th July, 2010. I hope to attain the pro status in 6 months. My own definition of a pro fx trader basically is someone that is consistently profitable over about 500 to 1000 trades. Since I will be day trading basically, I hope to be able to make those number of trades as well as profitable. Am I scared? Well, yes. Am I confident? Well, no. Is it possible? YES, because I hope to use my fear to build my faith knowing fully well that I am solely responsible for my rise or fall.

Now that I will be fully on my own, I should be able to update this blog regularly and I hope many people will find it interesting to visit and inspiring to read.

Silence in Forex World

There're often 2 reasons that you experience long periods of silence from forex traders based on my view: they're either too busy taking profitable trades to bother about updates or else too dejected from the plummets of loss streams. Paradoxically I had experienced both in my period of silence coupled with my natural aversion for writing generally since the last post. I had broke even despite my reduced risk by very nice steady increases only to be back to the same point by some steep losses. The lossses were actually examples of things that will not work and I hope I had learnt that lesson.

I was also amused by the definition of a professional trader as I read it somewhere that in the market, you will experience:

a) large profits some of the time

b) small profits most of the time, and

c) small losses some of the time. The last part is experience

d) large losses most of the time.

So a pro fx trader is someone that experince the first three and had for long stopped experiencing the last one. I am seriously struggling to break loose completely from (d) to set my foot firmly on the road to consistent profitable trading.

It is attainable.....

Demo Trading in Forex Training

I never thought nor appreciate the importance of demo until now I am trading with real money. Forex is very unique if only for this special opportunity. It is like the simulated flights for pilot training.

I am now properly making use of my demo accounts as it should be traded. My earlier experiences with demo account were unemotional and detached, so the result was fantastic. I brought that into live trading and got versely different result!!

Now every possibility must be tested. Any deviation must be established and adjustments must be confirmed. A single pip change could make all the difference and turn a winner to loser. It is now a matter of rock-science and mathematical statistics: Anything less is a disaster waiting to happen.

Trade Summary: now net 0% (great!!!)

Slow Path to Break-even

I am definitely returning though slowly. I had recouped some of my losses and gradually returning to original amount. The account is now down by just 4% and I am giving myself a big back-pat for that (who will if I don't do it myself).

Part of the adjustment I made had to do with my money management. I decided on a specific volume for each pair and stuck to it irrespective of the stop loss. Formerly I was using my capital and stop loss to determine my trade volume but it was costing me more losses despite good gains. A loss could amount to 100 pips for -$50 while a gain of 200 pips is only +$30. So with the new method, my gain or loss is the same and any trade with more than 150 - 200 pips loss is simply not for me.

I also take more trades now with more strategies both original and adopted (in fact I was surprised to see an improved version of the strategy I was trying to develop lately LIVE on a forum with very high positive rating!! Of course I quickly adopted it and started using it immediately)

I am willing to lose, willing to learn and determined to become a very successful forex trader. The retreat bridge had been burnt.....

Patience is the Ruler

The urge to leave a bad trade or exit a profitable one is many forex trader's demise. It certainly wrecked serious havoc on me these last 2 weeks. It is all part of the emotion that was not there during demo trading making good systems suspect and great trades moribund. I must seek and bow to the mighty King Patience. So, no more trying to rescue anything NOT initially part of the plan: Let the trade make or break itself.

To be truthful, it is not that I am not well aware of all these nor even said similar thing in the past, it is just that I realised the truth about the emotion of money having effect on me despite my 'formidable' defences. So right now I must tell myself the truth: You are not yet defended against money emotions; greed, fear, etc.

Trade Summary: down by 10% in a month. I shall return....

The Way Up could be Down.

Yeah, that's what I wrote in my facebook wall last Friday. It's a reflection of the funny outcome of the first week of live forex trading: All absolutely negative. More painful were the ones with nice greens that later turned to hit the stop loss. Really funny indeed.

But there's no cause for panic, though nobody really do like to lose, it is inevitable in this market. But one thing is I know the maximum I could lose defined by my stop loss and money management, but my gains has no maximum and in multiples of the stop loss. Definitely I shall recover all by the trading edge of my strategies. I have proved it with almost 1 year of demo trading, so there's no cause for panic except to keep me sober and also recognise that nothing is absolute and there's no master of all.

I have learnt patience as part of what brings the ultimate triumph.

I refunded my forex account today to begin a fresh journey.

The first attempt about 2 years ago was greatly short-lived: I gained about $300 and lost about $650 within a 2 weeks period for a net loss of about $350 in a $2,000 capital. So I quickly withdrew the remaining capital and went back to demo trading. I had only done about 2 weeks demo before then and was eagerly confident I could launch out only to beat a retreat. Of course it was the wise thing to do before my capital became total part of the 95% margin-call statistics.

I had been on demo since then and had been making good returns for close to a year now. I had attended more seminars, developed good personal strategies, adopted some others, and confident of the plunge this time.

I will be posting my thoughts, feelings, anything as much and whatever I feel like writing on my trading experiences for some time to come. I should hopefully make my first trade tomorrow or Friday if there's good signal.

This is a financial, physical, emotional and spiritual journey and experience.

I found it difficult to update this blog

I hate writing, no wonder it is difficult to me to update this blog regularly. My friend and colleague in office, Toyin Akiode started a blog just last year http://www.9jafans.com/ and has pulled a lot of traffic because he consistently updates his blog.

It's not for want of contents because I am doing part-time forex trading with which I could get daily updates and large followership, it's simply because I avoid writing as much as is possible. My boss, Biodun Marquis is a paperman. He jots down a lot; an habit he said he picked from his father.

But I should admit also that I face difficult times which is seriously affecting my productivity. I am a family man with 4 boys aged 4 - 10 years and should spend good time with my family. I spend about 4 hours daily to/fro office and use 10 hours at work every weekday. In the remaining 10 hours, I must spend time with my family, engage in part-time forex trading, eat, relax and sleep minimum of 8 hours (LOL). I really am facing difficult time.

Notwithstanding, what needs to be done must be done. I hope I get the determination and resolve to keep to it and update this as appropriate.

I was going over some of my past posts like 'Not taking Risk is Risky' and cannot but agree with the points I raised there. I have risen and sunk terribly in this investment world and is the wiser for it. Now I have around me very credible and successful mentors and have learnt real investment demands serious patience. Although I have stopped HYIP completely, the experiences I got there was still proving useful. Also, I am yet to make any profitable chunk in forex as I am still in training after my attempted walk on the seas.....

Patience was one thing I didn't court very well. I am now very cautious and patient in taking any move, and has been the better for it. I am also prepared to explore the real source of lasting wealth which is profiting from my profit by compounding. That's patience all-over again.

Nigerian Bloggers' Conference

I attended the Nigerian Bloggers' Conference convened by Adeolu Akinyemi today at the Banquet Hall of Elomaz Hotel, Maryland, Lagos. I heard about it through 'Deolu's blog and registered on Facebook.

Though the Conference was really like a discussion and prelude to having a real conference maybe next year, it was a very interesting forum. I met many of like minds at their different stages of blogging experience. I realized my blogging challenges are purely common to many others as well. I was therefore recharged, motivated and further inspired to keep doing what I should do to become what I wish it should become.

Although I had earlier resolved to post regularly, I still reneged. The conference should help to keep me in focus now.

New Time Resolution

I had been busy.

Ok, let me say the truth: I had been lazy all these while. Admittedly. Or rather I have not considered regularly updating this blog part of my priorities. But this will change now. I will put up the right atittude and do what I have to do.

I included the New Nigeria Club in the list of MLM and Discount Clubs. It is purely both in a great way and open to all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria. Overview of HYIP programs I did in 2007

Here is the list of HYIPs I registered for last year:

I invested in all except A3 union and as of today, only Open Trade is still operating of the lot (and is even shaky now). I was able to make my money back from each before they closed and even had profits too. That's the due diligence I mentioned at the beginning of last year in my post HYIP

Here is my conclusion: Tread with caution on HYIP, invest as minimal as possible, spread your fund between 5 - 10 programs.

It may be good to know also that your hunch plays a part too (LOL) I have friends who are into HYIPs too making it very well, while others are losing, and some are not even touching it at all. Same goes for MLM and others. If your inner mind don't agree with it, don't do it.

For me personally, I am watching things ..... and keeping my fund to myself for now.

Not taking Risk is Risky!!

I recently discovered that not taking risk in business and investing is even riskier in the long run:

1. You are robbed of vital education and learining you would have gained. This is a colossal loss that cannot be quantified!
2. You miss opportunities that may not be recoverable,
3. You miss the high gains that usually accompany high risk business and investment,
4. You lose part of that confidence in you that you can and will make.
5. There is so much more.....

One should not be afraid of taking risks, but only need to take informed risk. Risk based on proper analysis of the past, present and future. Risk in line with what you understand and desire, making use of funds you can afford to lose anyway.

Up till last year, I was content with just 40% gain per annum. I was scared to join others making that in a month or two! But now, I am not even content with that again: I am moving to 100% monthly!!

The risks in HYIP, surf and the likes are REAL!!
Even reliable programmes with verifiable administrators close down unexpectedly, as it happened with United Private.

That is why you never play with what you cannot lose in this investment.
You also don't rely on it to make you wealthy and financially free. It just offer something to cushion some effects. And to me, I think it is game and fun too.

Leaning is a continuos process. I hope reading through this will provide a learning situation where the mentioned shortcomings could be avoided.

HYIP is really High Yield, High Risk.

That's why the golden advice is never to invest what you cannot afford to lose.
The reason for this is to remove emotional attachments to its participation, and actually view it as it is: high risk - in case it goes that way anyway. Focussing on its high yield could portend grave danger if the other side is overlooked.

When I initially started the investment, I was a complete novice that allowed others to do my analysis. I also did not have any strategy whatever. I had not fully understood it nor really grasped the high risk factor involved.
Also, I was immediately inviting others massively trying to gain referral profits.
The result was very devastating. In fact there was a program I invested in that had already collapsed! I lost a lot of money, pulled a lot of people down and soiled myself in the process.

While I was trying to pick myself up, then the Forex market lure came in with even more stupendous profit percentages.

I then realized two things: The businesses are real and the returns are realistic! It just means I must get into the real business to stop being a victim of scams.

In my findings, I realized the monitoring programmes are very unreliable. A great number of them gives priority to the highest bidder on their site. They also have very minimal investments scattered across nearly all the programmes.
The forums were a problem too. Many promote one programme or the other and most members are often there for their referral benefits as well.

So there must be better yardstick to measure the programmes. I also decided to assist as many as I could in passing what I already know and experienced so as to reduce the number of scam victims.
